Traditional Values, 21st Century Learning
Our Lady & St John offers modern and bespoke facilities across the whole site at North Road. The main school was reopened in November 2013, following a complete rebuild. Here the majority of academic subjects are taught, such as RE, English, Maths and Science along with Geography and History. The Atrium offers a bright space where students can meet at break and lunchtime as well as providing space for the dining room. This is now complemented by the Notre Dame Building which houses a state of the art Media suite with recording studio from which the school radio station plays, a Technology suite which includes facilities for Hospitality and Catering and the fully-functioning ‘Futures’ restaurant where food is prepared, cooked and served by students to the public or invited guests. MFL and Art are also taught in this building.
Both buildings have seating/performance areas where assemblies are held and shows/presentations facilitated for Parents and the local community. In addition the Sports Facilities are soon to be enhanced by the provision of a 4G area which will include floodlit football pitches and will be available for hire to community football teams. Currently there is a brand new gym and outdoor MUGA which enhance the facilities in the Sports Hall. Music is housed in its own suite alongside the dance and drama building where separate studios offer bespoke facilities for each of these subject areas. Our Lady & St John is home to the Blackburn with Darwen Music Service.
During the summer our school Chapel will be completed to provide a quiet, respectful area where retreat days and group reflections can be held. Our Lady & St John is proud to provide specialist facilities for students with ASD and SEN, as well as having a full-time Counsellor, Learning Mentors and specialist Behaviour Support services.
