At Our Lady & St John, we feel that we are a vital part of the Catholic Education of our youngsters into the future. We are very proud to hold strong links with our local community and we, therefore, work closely with Salford Diocese and our local Catholic parishes and primary schools to secure the best home, school, church links that we can. Canon Jude Harrison visits school frequently. Masses, Eucharistic Services are celebrated and recently we invited our pupils to reflect at the end of their school year during our ‘Light Fever’ celebration in school. This partnership also has wider links with charities both in the Blackburn area and beyond, as well as involvements with several interfaith projects. For example through fundraising we have forged strong links with CAFOD, CARITAS & HCPT.
At the same time we are proud to invite our local community into school to celebrate and share key events.
Our Year 10 students also host a Christmas Party for our local Senior citizens and through their Health and Social Care work make visits to Linden House, to work with the elderly residents. Academically many of our departments support local networks in their subject areas to help share good practice and gain new working partnerships. This is also evident in the work undertaken because of our membership of the nationally acclaimed PIXL group whose sole aim is to enhance the progress and outcomes of students across the UK. The future prospects of our students is crucial in the formation of the whole child.
We offer visits to Further Education Institutes, work with key companies such as Manchester Orchestra and Sky Sports Living as well as taster days at our local sixth form providers.
