🧵 Year 8 Trip to Herbert Parkinson –Textiles Experience 🧵

Recently, a group of our Year 8 students visited Herbert Parkinson, a local textiles firm, for a hands-on insight into how high-quality soft furnishings are made. During the visit, students were able to tour the factory and see the full production process in action. They explored how curtains are designed and manufactured, gaining a real understanding of the skills and precision involved in textile production. After the tour, students were given a creative design pack and challenged to produce their own cushion. They later completed their projects at home, using hand-stitching techniques to bring their designs to life. One student reflected: “We looked around to see how curtains are made and how the whole process works. Then we were given a pack to create a cushion, which I finished at home. It was all hand-stitched, and I really enjoyed making it myself.” The finished cushions showcase fantastic creativity, effort, and craftsmanship from all involved. A brilliant example of learning beyond the classroom!
