Our Ethos
Our Lady & St John is an 11-16 Voluntary Academy whose task is to provide an environment where girls and boys will be able to develop spiritually, socially, intellectually and physically.
Our school is a vibrant community where staff and students work together to create an environment in which exciting things happen every day.
Visitors often remark on the strong sense of belonging and the warm welcome they receive at Our Lady and St John. Our students take pride in their appearance, uphold high standards of behaviour, and care deeply for one another. They ensure that everyone is safe, respected, and valued.
We are ambitious for all our students. With high expectations and a belief in their potential, we encourage them to aim high and achieve great things. Our curriculum goes beyond the National Curriculum, challenging students to stretch their abilities while ensuring that those who need extra support are given the help they need to succeed. Our teachers and teaching assistants are dedicated professionals who bring expertise, passion, and care to every lesson. We want children at our school to be safe, happy and successful.
Central to our mission is the belief that every student has unique gifts and talents to develop. This is reflected in our rich programme of extra-curricular opportunities, including sport, music, dance, art, technology, and much more. There truly is something for everyone.
Above all, we are proud to be a Caring Catholic Community. Our faith and values underpin everything we do, shaping not only academic excellence but also the character and personal growth of our students. It is no surprise that we are consistently oversubscribed: families choose our school because they want the strong foundation we provide to help their children grow into confident, compassionate, and capable young adults.
Our Lady & St John RC High School aims to be a Caring Catholic Community Centred on Christ, so as to fully develop the gifts and talents of each person in order to love and serve God, others and themselves.
Chaplaincy
Our Chaplaincy Team, made up of staff and pupils, supports the mission and ethos of Our Lady & St John and its purpose is to nurture in all, a knowledge and love of our faith. Through prayer and encouragement, the team works hard together to ensure that the school’s values of Unity, Faith, Truth, Justice, Forgiveness and Industry permeate all aspects of school life.
Our Chaplaincy Team acknowledges the importance of collective worship across the school and ensures that there are opportunities for services to take place at various stages throughout the liturgical year. At the same time, the team works hard to try and promote spiritual development of staff and pupils by facilitating a range of events and experiences that actually put faith into action.
The Chaplaincy Team is grateful for the support of the local priests, who visit school regularly to celebrate mass with us and to lead special services at key times in the liturgical calendar.
