Year 8 Visit to Queen Street Mill

Year 8 students enjoyed an educational visit to Queen Street Mill today, where they had the opportunity to experience life as Victorian schoolchildren.

The visit began with a lesson set on 11th June 1897, during which students practised the traditional ‘3Rs’ – Reading, Writing and Arithmetic – using slate boards and slate sticks, just as children would have done over 125 years ago.

Following the lesson, students were given a guided tour of the historic steam-powered textile mill. They learned about the importance of the textile industry to Lancashire’s history and gained a fascinating insight into the working conditions, machinery and technology of the Victorian era.

The visit provided an engaging and memorable opportunity for students to bring their classroom learning to life and develop a deeper understanding of Britain’s industrial heritage.

We would like to thank the staff at Queen Street Mill for delivering such an informative and enjoyable experience.
